Dear editor:

I applaud Jill Quiambao, Mineola ISD School Board member, for wanting a state legislator to sit in on the school district’s budget workshop. A legislator would then see the budget cuts necessary to pass a balanced budget. The legislature wants public schools to do a better job of educating students, but they only increased the allotment per student by $55 since 2019.

I hope every school board will invite a legislator to see how the board manages their state monies. It would be an eye-opening experience.
