Lila Rose Nelson, 1952-2021

Lila Rose Nelson, 69, died peacefully on Nov. 23, 2021 at UT Health in East Texas. She was born April 21, 1952 in Muncie, Ind. to Charles and Mary Garrett. Lila grew up in Indiana and graduated from Hamilton Heights High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Nelson; parents, Charles and Mary Garrett; and sister, Darlene Bramlett.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Pendergrass; her daughter, Mary Slaton; her son-in-law, Charles Slaton; her grandchildren, David and Joshua Slaton; and her sister, Kay Ellis.

Lila was retired from a career in banking and moved to Mineola to be near her family. Lila was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a gentle spirit who lived for her family and had a kind heart. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and daughter in Florida and walking in the sand at the beach.

Lila was laid to rest on Jan. 3, 2022 at 10:30 in the columbarium at Barrancas National Cemetery at the Naval Station, Pensacola, Fla.
