Lou Wagner handing reins to daughter as trustee of the Meredith Foundation
After 18 years serving the Meredith Foundation, Lou Wagner is stepping down as trustee and board chairman.
But the mantle won’t have to be passed too far. Her daughter, Robin Averett, was appointed on Dec. 15 by District Judge Jeff Fletcher to take her place.
The foundation awarded about $1.5 million in 2020 to non-profit groups in Mineola as well as the city and schools.
Trustees are in the process of reviewing applications for 2021 funding.
Remaining board members include Bob Smith - vice chairman, Joe Williams - secretary/treasurer, Freda Madsen - trustee and Jerry Phillips - trustee.
The Meredith Foundation was established in 1958 by Harry W. Meredith and has invested close to $34 million in the community.
Averett is a Mineola High School graduate. She graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a bachelors degree in business administration. She is married to Jimmy Averett of Mineola and they have one son, Lane Averett, a junior at Mineola High School. She serves as a loan officer at Mineola Community Bank.
