Marchman Garden Club plans fall programs

Posted

The Fannie Marchman Garden Club 2022 year concluded with a field trip to LaMont Wheat in Wills Point in June, followed by the second successful annual Garden Tour.

In July, members met at the civic center for a program on preparing for fall gardening presented by Angela Thompson and in August for “Flower Pounding,” a decorative fun craft using flower petals, leaves, etc. and pounding them onto water color card stock to release the dye. Meleena Byram was the presenter.

The first half of the club’s year will be busy, interesting and fun. Beginning with the September 21 meeting, members are taking a field trip to the Hip Horticulture Center in Edom to learn and discuss succulents. Program starts at 10 a.m., followed by lunch and a brief meeting.

Oct. 19 the club will be at the Mineola Nature Preserve pavilion for a seed/plant/garden item swap.  Members and visitors should bring a sack lunch and beverage. Meeting starts at 10 a.m., weather permitting. No rain date scheduled.

The Nov. 16 meeting, to be held at the Mineola Civic Center, is a service project dedicated to addressing Christmas cards/craft making for local nursing home residents.

The Christmas celebration is private, and the club will re-assemble in January. Programs and field trips for January through August will be announced in the new year..

All meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday, unless scheduled otherwise. Meet and greet at 9:30 a.m. at the Mineola Civic Center. For field trips the members car pool and meet at a posted location. Information is available on the Facebook page, Fannie-Marchman-Garden-Club.  Visitors are welcome.
