Mary Mangum Gongre  1941-2021

Mary Mangum Gongre, 79, of Winnsboro, passed away in the early hours of May 27, 2021 in Tyler.  

Mary was born Sept. 9, 1941 in Dallas to Jake and Mae Skiles Mangum. She grew up in Irving, graduating from Irving High School. In 1979 she moved to Wood County and began working for Wood County Electric Co-op as a cashier and retired in February 2004 after 25 years with the company as engineering secretary. In Mary’s spare time she enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos and listening to Elvis. When Mary wasn’t out winning money, she loved to garden and tend to her flowerbeds. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Mae Skiles Magnum.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kim Gongre of Denton; special companion, Ed Heath; and Jana Smith of Quitman, who was also her daughter, not by blood but by love.

Funeral service for Mary was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Lowe-Gardner Funeral Chapel with Keith Anderson officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Springs Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time, beginning at 2 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers were J.A. Newton, Shane Whittington, Kevin VanHorn, Larry Sandifer, Joe Brady and Kim Winterbauer .

Honorary pallbearers were the retirees of Wood County Electric Co-op.
