Mineola, AG boys enter state playoffs
With a playoff spot on the line, the Mineola varsity boys basketball team handily defeated Winona 71-27 last Tuesday, Feb. 11.
The two teams were tied for the final playoff spot heading into the final regular season game, after Mineola dropped a tough one the previous Friday to third-place Malakoff, 37-34.
The win gave the Yellowjackets a 6-6 district record and put them in fourth place in the district.
The Yellowjackets took on Tatum on Tuesday in Longview for the bidistrict title. Mineola lost 77-48.
Alba-Golden had previously secured its playoff spot with a win over Cayuga.
The Panthers lost their regular season finale to LaPoynor, the district’s third place team, 86-58.
The Panthers also finished in fourth place with a 6-6 district mark.
Alba-Golden faced Normangee for bidistrict Tuesday in Palestine. The Panthers lost 65-50.
