Mineola board views proposed school calendar
The Mineola School Board got its first look at the proposed 2022-23 school calendar Monday. It will be up for final consideration in March.
It has classes starting Thursday, Aug. 18, with high school graduation on May 26.
In keeping with the Thursday return to school, classes will resume after the Christmas break on Thursday, Jan. 5.
The October fall break will continue, which Superintendent Cody Mize said was popular, and spring break will coordinate with Tyler Junior College in March.
The board also heard a presentation from ISD Police Chief Cody Castleberry about a new wireless intercom system for the high school.
He said last fall’s bomb scare revealed holes in communications, and the new units will help fill in those areas that were not alerted to the evacuation order.
In addition to lacking complete coverage, the system is old and occasionally goes out.
The new system will provide intercom service as well as automated alerts.
