Mineola Caring & Sharing’s impact detailed

Mineola Caring and Sharing served more than 1,000 people during 2024.

The non-profit’s annual meeting showed the organization distributed 10 tons of food – 20,000 pounds – during its holiday distributions to more than 200 families in December.

It has been passing out food, gifts and necessities in the Mineola community for 42 years.

Al and Jamie Johnson were recognized for their efforts in assisting the program last year.

Al Johnson was also elected to the board to replace Joel Moore, who moved from the area.

Thanks primarily to a benefit car show, Caring and Sharing showed a positive fund balance of $13,483.

The car show alone raised $19,619. Donations accounted for another $22,419.

The sale of recycled cans, which can be brought to the Brookshire’s parking lot, raised $4,893.

The radio auction brought in $4,000, and other fundraisers brought in $3,850.

The largest expense was for groceries at $19,261, which would have been substantially more without all the donated food Caring and Sharing receives, from corporate donors to canned food drives conducted by students.

In addition to the Christmas distributions, Caring and Sharing also benefits the community in other ways, from scholarships for graduating seniors to $500 donations to each of the school campuses to help with needed assistance throughout the year.
