The Mineola Lady Jackets placed 6th Tuesday at the girls high school state golf tournament at Jimmy Clay golf course in Austin for Conference 3A.

Their two-day total of 760 strokes was 129 shots behind the winning team from Wall, which dominated the field with a 78-stroke win to defend their 2021 title.

After day one Monday, Mineola sat in 8th place among 12 teams with a team score of 391. All five girls improved their scores in the second round to pass two teams.

Wall, with all five girls returning, led with 312 after the first day, some 47 shots ahead of second-place Odessa Compass Academy – last years fourth-place team – and Gunter.

Last year’s silver medalist, McGregor, shot a 373 to sit in fifth while 2021 bronze medalist Caldwell was in 9th with 403.

Mineola improved its first-day position by 22 strokes to 369, similar to the 20 strokes they improved over last year’s 411 first round at a different course.

After the first day, two teams were tied for second at 359, followed by a 369, 373, 381 and 390.

Mineola’s two-day total of 760 allowed them to pass McGregor at 761 and West with 794.

Monday scores were Sunni Ruffin and Ava Johnson, who each shot 93, Savannah Lopez 94, Bransyn Anderson 111 and Valerie Moreland 120 for the Lady Jackets.

All but Anderson competed in last year’s state tournament.

Tuesday Johnson fired an 83, Ruffin 87, Lopez 92, Anderson 107 and Moreland 116.

Team scores count the four lowest from the five scores.
