Mineola Kiwanis club celebrating 50th anniversary all year long
Tony Pegues,, who served as the first secretary of the Mineola Kiwanis Club, was guest for the club’s annual business meeting last Tuesday, April 29. He and President Sam Curry, who also served as the club’s first president when it was formed in 1975, reminisced about the club’s past, including being the first club to move permanently to the Mineola Civic Center within two years of forming, after meeting initially at Herm’s restaurant. The club has enjoyed a long series of recognized distinguished awards from Kiwanis International. Curry passed out last year’s distinguished pens to the previous president, Brian Jones and Secretary Joyce Curry. The club is celebrating its 50th anniversary in a variety of ways throughput the year.
