The Mineola Lady Jackets recorded a three-inning win over the Winona Ladycats last Tuesday. The lopsided 16-0 score is just that, the final score. There can be no conclusions drawn from this game about the Jackets.

Mineola has a flourishing softball program. It is competitive with players who demonstrate a pretty high level of softball acumen.

Winona is struggling to field a softball team of that nature. They dressed 10 players for the game, four of whom had never played softball. They took the field and competed.

Regarding the game, it is sufficient to note that the Lady Jackets led 10-0 at the end of the first. That lead was generated with only three legitimate base hits – a sharply hit ground ball down the line at third which went for an inside the park home run, and two singles. The remainder of the offense was as a result of seven fielding errors by the Wildcats.

Alana Galaz faced 10 Wildcat batters and had good control, pace and placement all night.
