Mineola Lady Jackets win area championship

Mineola defeated Jefferson 41-33 to win the area basketball championship Thursday in Hallsville.

The victory sets up the Lady Jackets for a regional quarterfinal game early next week versus the Winnsboro-Waskom winner and a likely rematch with the Lady Raiders who easily swept through Mineola's district undefeated.

It marked Mineola's second win over a team from District 14-3A after Monday's win over Atlanta.

The Lady Jackets advanced as the fourth-place team out of District 13-3A.

Mural reflects message of unity

“In unity, there is strength.” For generations to come, motorists traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 69 (South Pacific St.) in Mineola will be reminded of that message, emblazoned across the top of a colorful mural – the first major public art of the Wood County Unity Mural Project.

County orders outdoor burning ban

Wood County commissioners voted unanimously to approve an order to prohibit outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county for 90 days from Tuesday’s date.
