We made it to Thanksgiving. Now onto the December events. There are a lot of things going on around us. If you need a quiet minute, stop by the Mineola Memorial Library and just sit, read a book and enjoy the quieter atmosphere.

We are collecting books for Caring & Sharing. We are collecting new books for infants, children, teens and adults. Hardback, paperback, board-books, large-print: just as long as they are new. Drop them off at the library by Dec. 7 and we will get them to Caring & Sharing to distribute.

Our annual open house is fast approaching on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 4-6 p.m. We will have refreshments, a state of the library address, and of course, our friend and fellow reader, Santa Claus will be stopping by for photos (you take with your device), conversations and maybe even a story.

Heads up for Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. The Select Theater will be showing “The Polar Express,” and ticket sales will benefit the library. Get your tickets, put on your jammies, and come enjoy a great movie at the oldest, continuously operating theater in Texas. Be sure to purchase popcorn, too.

Remember, Lone Star Legal from Legal Aid will be here, Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 1-3 p.m. to answer legal questions. What they cannot answer here, they can help you find out where to get more information. This is their last visit this year so be sure to take advantage of them and their expertise.

Toddler Story Time will continue on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. for those 18 months to 3 years with their parent/caregiver. Pre-School Story Time is on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. for ages 3-5 years with their parent/caregiver. Youth Advisory Committee will meet Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. to plan a convention at the library. Homeschool Heroes will meet first and third Fridays at 10 a.m. (Dec. 6 and 20). Crafting Club will meet Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10:30 a.m.

The library will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.

Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations may be tax-deductible.
