Welcome to summer! Sometimes the library will be quieter than others this summer. We are hosting only programs for grownups and the summer reading events for children. The library will be open regular hours.

For those that have noticed and commented on our wild-scape. Remember those lovely bluebonnets? Well, after they bloom, we need to wait for them to go to seed, then we can mow. This year, we’ve had an abundance of rain which led to prolonged bloom time and drying time to go to seed. Then there’s that grass that sprang up which we cannot put a per-emergent on or we will end our bluebonnets. Remember the aforementioned rain? Well, as you know, when grass gets wet, it gets heavy and it has to dry. But, never fear. The yard is due to be cut in the next week if it hasn’t been cut by press time. Mother Nature and her need to water will be what determines the mowing schedule.

Summer reading will begin on Wednesday, May 28 at 2 p.m. We are located at 301 N. Pacific in Mineola. This is geared for children kindergarten to 6th grade. Younger children may attend as long as their adult stays alongside them and assists in their participation in activities. Older children may get the opportunity to be volunteers during the programs. We will continue this program until July 9 when we will wrap up things with a celebration.

We will get to visit the children attending summer school in Pre-K to 5th grade by taking the Bookmobile to the campuses and making what are called Lobby Stops. We will have a quick activity and an opportunity to borrow books to read in the classroom.

All of our air conditioning units are working well. We had to completely replace one this year (expensive but worth it) and hopefully it will last us 24 years like the former one did.

Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and does not receive any funds from the city or county. Your donations mean a lot and may be tax-deductible. Many thanks to the Rushings, Linda Rhodes, Jan Hardie and the Fannie Marchman Garden Club for their generous donations.
