Mineola Library Notes
Summer has arrived, and with it is our Summer Reading event. We are halfway through this program. We had a great kick-off, then we made cardboard art, Chet from Do Art Productions had a comic drawing presentation that was so energetic, and Ranger Junior from Tyler State Park came to talk to the children about animal camouflage and then did plant rubbings trying to collect a variety of plant life.
In the midst of some of these activities we had visits with Apollo, Bronco, Bailey and Maxi who are therapy dogs that brought their trainers with them to a couple of our programs.
The children are doing a great job attending events and trying different reading challenges, and their parents are doing a great job, too!
You’ve probably noticed some new faces in the library. We had to say goodbye to some staff members, then we were happy to welcome some new staff. They are learning quickly, and we hope you will enjoy getting to know them.
What’s next at the library? There are a few more Summer Reading events. July 2 will be the Texas A&M Chemistry Road Show at the Methodist Ministry Center, 612 N. Newsom, and we will wrap up the program with a celebration on July 9.
East Texas Perfictionists Book Club will meet Thursday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “The Life We Bury” by Alan Eskens. If you have read the book come and join the group for discussion. If you have not read the book, come join the group and get to know the members and learn about their next selection.
The Mineola Memorial Library will be closed Friday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. We will be back on July 5. Be on the look out for displays regarding our country’s semiquincentennial or sestercentennial.
The Mineola Memorial Library will host a movie night on Thursday, July 15 at the Historic Select Theater in downtown Mineola. We will be presenting Michael York in “The Three Musketeers.” This is a fundraiser for the library so please, make a generous monetary donation to the library on that evening and also support the Select by visiting the concession stand.
Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and receives no money from either the city of Mineola or Wood County. Your donations may be tax-deductible.
