Summer is winding down and schools are beginning their fall terms. We are keeping an eye on the county and local numbers and watching how the schools continue to operate at this time. Watching these trends helps us evaluate our services and what we feel comfortable offering.

Remember, we offer curbside service to anyone who prefers us to bring library materials to them in their car. Maybe you prefer this system due to virus concerns or maybe it’s just too hot to get out. Either way, reserve your items online and we will call you when they are ready or call the library and work with the staff to find the next book you want to read. Curbside is offered during the times the library is open to the public.

We began offering Grab and Go activities in July and we will continue to offer those weekly. We have had dragon gliders, matching games, a book and activity to go with it just to name a few. These will continue until we feel comfortable offering in-house programming that can accommodate social distancing.

We have a display commemorating Women’s Right to Vote: the 19th amendment. This poster display was provided to us by the Smithsonian Institute. It can be found near our magazines and newspapers. It is very interesting to remember some things we were taught in school and to learn things we might not have heard about.

When you visit the library please wear a mask and limit your visit to no more than one hour per day. We have a limit of 12 people in the library in addition to staff. We’re doing our best to maintain a clean environment during this time following safety guidelines.

The library will be closed, Saturday, Sept. 5 for the Labor Day holiday. Book drops will be open on the front porch for any returns you need to drop off.

Remember the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations are tax-deductible.
