Mineola Memorial Library Notes

January is gone and we have moved on into February. Can you believe it? Need some books to read to your children with the Valentine Day or Ground Hog Day theme? We have several. Come check some out and read to your child. Reading to a child helps them learn rhythms in speech, learn how words go together to form sentences and stories, and it is time you get to spend together. I still like to be read to and I am supposed to be a grown-up!

It came up in conversation people may not know how to donate to the Mineola Memorial Library. We are an independent little library. We are not part of the city or county. Donations help us operate. At the moment, we are not receiving physical donations because we have run out of room due to the generosity of our patrons.

You may donate by stopping by the library and leaving a cash donation and those can be given to a staff member or deposited into either Hamlet or Freddie the Frog Prince. You may also send a check made payable to Mineola Memorial Library and either leave it with the staff or mail it to the library at 301 N. Pacific Mineola TX 75773.

Physical items, which are not being accepted at the moment, may or may not be used on our shelves depending on several scenarios. Do we already have the title and if so, which is in better condition? If we don’t have the title, is it a requested author or series? Will the item hold up on the library shelf where there is much more usage than on a home bookshelf? If the item cannot be used on the shelf, can it be used for outreach, fundraiser or craft? Once you donate an item to the library it becomes property of the library.

We do not accept magazines (not even National Geographic), encyclopedias or text books. We do not accept (or use) items that are past their prime. No one likes to throw away a book but sometimes you have to throw them away. They may be falling apart, they may have questionable stains or they may not have been stored as securely as was thought.

Please, stop by and visit us. See what new books have been added. Use the computers. Use the WiFi. We just ask that you continue to wear a mask, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer, keep your distance, and stay home if you are not feeling well. If you have items due, call us and we can work with you. See you soon!

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donation may be tax deductible.
