We made it through the snow. It was pretty but it was cold. Some of us fared better than others and are still working through the lingering effects. The library was very blessed to have suffered no damage.

As the front was approaching, the library staff renewed items that would have been due during the week of the snow. Next, we attempted to reach all of those patrons to let them know their items had been renewed and they could take that off of their “worry” list and stay home and stay safe. Finally, we posted on our website, Facebook, signs around the library, and called KMOO to notify the public we were indeed closed until the thaw. I took pictures on Monday after the first snow event and we received eight inches of snow at the library.

We are open again with our hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. until 2  p.m. Book drops are on the porch for returns made after operating hours. The WiFi is available from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.

During the winter event, some of our patrons discovered our eBook platforms. We offer eBooks through Project Gutenberg consisting of titles that are in the public domain, Axis 360 with a smaller collection of books we have selected, Freading with a wide selection of older titles, and finally LibriVox consisting of audio books in the public domain. To use any of these platforms, use your library card number (without the “p”) to sign in and your password is whatever telephone number you have on file with us, unless you chose something else. Some platforms require an additional download to access, and books are available for a two-week check out period.

Finally, we want to say thank you to the Meredith Foundation for their continuing support of the Mineola Memorial Library through their grant program. We are very grateful for that support and will use the funds to provide for members of our community.

Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your monetary donations are welcomed.
