Wow! One quarter of 2021 is behind us. We made it past snowmageddon, and COVID-19 vaccines are more widely available. As I write this, the sun is out and everything is looking up.

Friday, April 2 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. City National Bank will be hosting a bake sale benefiting the Mineola Memorial Library. Easter is also the same weekend and this might be time to pick up something to have on hand for holiday guests and to support the library.  CNB is located at 200 N. Pacific. We appreciate their generosity in having this bake sale to benefit the library.

Other things in April include the annual East Texas Giving Day on Tuesday, April 27. This is an effort to help East Texas non-profits raise needed funds. The Mineola Memorial Library will be participating this year as will several other local non-profits. Watch KETK-56 and Facebook for information. Or go to easttexasgivingday.org. Here you can see which non-profits are participating and you can choose how many you wish to support. The minimum donation is $10.

East Texas Library Friends will meet on Saturday, April 17 at 2 p.m. to discuss “How to Start a Fire” by Lisa Lutz and to select new books for upcoming meetings. Please, join us and please wear a mask. We will try and social distance but it depends on the size of the group.

We continue to offer Grab and Go activities for children and families. They are placed outside each Wednesday and are available while supplies last. These activities help developing readers in a variety of ways: fine motor skills when coloring or cutting, sequence when putting something together, hearing vocabulary as you explain the activity, and enjoyment from accomplishing an activity. Remember, the goal is not perfection, it is to have fun and spend some time together.

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations may be tax-deductible.

The library has received a memorial for Betty Napier from Carolyn Hunziker and donations from CLCC, Janice Wisner and Hochheim Prairie Branch 53.
