Summer has arrived and so has the heat. What an understatement. We offer an activity that is very cool –reading.

Our summer reading program has begun. We continue to offer Grab and Go activities that are placed on the porch on Wednesday mornings and are available while supplies last. We have reading logs where you can earn Brag Tags and Beads for daily reading efforts. If you need someone to read to, we have some plush puppies for adoption and they require 20 minutes of reading daily to keep them in tip top form.

We have enjoyed our weekly visits to Mineola Primary and Mineola Elementary. While there, we have offered short programs and an opportunity for the children to check out a book from our bookmobile. The children and teachers have been great and many are keeping up with reading logs, earning beads for their efforts. The children can continue to earn Brag Tags and beads by visiting the Mineola Memorial Library and bringing their reading logs for us to update.

Our Summer Reading Program has been made possible by a grant from Dollar General. Funds from this grant have been used to purchase materials related to our summer reading program such as craft components and reading rewards. Grants such as this from Dollar General help us to continue to offer programs and materials to our patrons and community.

We appreciate the patience shown while we were redoing floors in the entry way to the library. We had to close early a couple of days in order to remove and re-install the flooring. This project is now complete.

The Friends of the Library braved the heat and manned the Book Sale for June. We are very thankful for their efforts. Donations raised from this event also support the library’s endeavors.

In September, look for the return of Pajama Story Time to the library programs. The Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library will be hosting this event. Stay tuned for details. 

The Friends are not meeting during July and August but will return Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. and you are invited to attend the meeting, learn about opportunities the Friends have to offer, and to join the group.
