Mineola Memorial Library Notes
Happy November! The year is quickly coming to a close but we are still open and stocked with books for cooking holiday meals, creating holiday crafts and books to escape from all that goes with the holidays. Please stop by and see us at 301 N. Pacific in Mineola.
Many thanks to the American Library Association’s Libraries Transform Communities grant that allowed us to host a conversation about McFarland School, the African-American school that existed prior to integration. While the attendance was small, it was an enjoyable conversation. We got to talk to some former students about their memories and, because we held the event at the Select Theater, we also got to hear about their experiences going to the movies. The executive director even gave the participants a quick tour of the former balcony area. We will be setting up a display about McFarland very soon.
Our staff participated in a pumpkin decorating contest. We picked characters or scenes from books. The winner was Hedgwick, the owl from Harry Potter.
Pajama Story Time is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. This is a family program focusing on children ages 4 to 8. Please join us for some stories and light refreshments.
Our Thankful Bird has returned. Please feel free to jot down something for which you are thankful and add it to our display.
We will also have a suggestion box. We are looking ahead to 2022, and if you would like to have some input, please leave a positive suggestion or comment on how we may serve you in the coming year.
On Nov. 24, CNB in Mineola will host a bake sale to benefit the Mineola Memorial Library. This will be an opportune time to purchase goodies for the holiday season, maybe free up some time to spend with friends and family, and support the Mineola Memorial Library.
The library will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 for our employees to spend time with their friends and family. We will reopen on Friday, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m.
Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations may be tax-deductible.
