Mineola Pilot Club honors students
One of the longest running projects for the Pilot Club of Mineola is their dinner for veterans with a program of elementary students who have won the patriotic poster, essay and poetry contests.
Pilots Lori White and Shelly Whitney chaired the event.
Veterans attending the dinner gave their military ranks and duties.
Pilot Barbara Schmidt gave a brief history of Veterans Day.
Overall winner was Mickey Smith who read her poem at the MHS Veteran’s Day program. Third grade poster winners included Gabriella Lindley, first place; Garrett Salonen, second; and Brooke Bolling, third.
Eason Hooton placed first in the fourth grade essay contest with Alexa White second and Landon Clark third.
Fifth grade poetry winners were Kayt Hopps, first place; Lila Whitten, second; and Olivia Godwin, third.
