Mineola takes big lead to defeat Quitman
Mineola raced in front 9-1 before Quitman could get the bats going, but the four-run rally was not enough in the final two innings as Mineola came away with a 9-5 district softball victory in a Monday makeup game.
Mineola outhit the hosts 13-7 as both teams played error-free ball.
Mineola took command early with a three-run first inning. Quitman came back with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Mineola added two in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Alyssa Lankford smacked four hits for Mineola, and Emily Wiley and Alana Galaz each had two hits.
Lankford and Audrey Dowdle each had three RBI for the Lady Jackets.
Quitman’s Ashley Davis had an inside-the-park home run and two RBI.
Alexis O’Neal (4 1/3) and Kennedy Elmore shared pitching duties for Quitman.
Alana Galaz went five and a third for Mineola.
