The Mineola School Board recognized the following students and staff at the Nov. 18 board meeting:

Primary - Presley Duke and Royce Morales, 1st grade; teacher, Heather Kinsel, 3rd grade.

Intermediate - Stetson Latham and Hayley Molina, 4th grade; teacher, Sandra Jasso, 4th grade.

Middle - Zane Hazelwood and Kimberly Santos, 6th grade; teacher, Heather Crain, art.

High school - Johnathan Ledesma Garcia and Carmen Carrasco, seniors; teacher, Julie Chappa, math.

Buzz’s Ultimate Effort Award - Jospeh Kellogg, transportation department, for assisting a Sulphur Springs bus in getting back on the road after a mechanical breakdown.

Cross country state qualifiers Olivia Hughes, senior, and Raylie Peebles, junior, were recognized. Hughes ran in the state meet all four years and Peebles for the second time.

Superintendent Cody Mize noted that the Mineola ISD Education Foundation’s recent winter market and pageant raised more than $27,000.

Enrollment was announced at 1,756 students, down five from last month’s record high. Attendance was reported at 95.62%, led by the primary campus.

Trustees reviewed two annual performance reports.

The district scored a perfect 100 on the Financial Integrity Rating System for the 2022-23 school year.

The district also scored the top ”1” rating on the 2023-34 Results-Driven Accountability report, which looks at federal programs and special populations.

English as a Second Language coordinator Annette Pecorino reported that the district’s population of ESL students has risen an average of 5% per year and is up 40% in the past seven years from 193 students to 272.

Seven new students enrolled in the last few weeks.

She noted that each year the district is making progress in serving students, helping them to transition to competent English speakers.
