MISD board adopts 2022-23 schedule
The Mineola School Board took final action on the 2022-23 academic calendar last Thursday.
School will begin Aug. 8 for teachers and Aug. 18 for students. Fall break will be Oct. 7-10, Thanksgiving Nov. 21-25 and Christmas Dec. 19-Jan. 4. Spring break is March 13-17 and school ends May 26. Other student holidays include Sept. 5, Oct. 24, Jan. 16, Feb. 17-20 and April 7-10.
The board amended the budget for a stock trailer approved for the ag department in September.
The manufacturer sold out and canceled the order. Ag teacher D.J. Wernecke located a replacement trailer in Arizona, but the cost is an additional $11,000, thanks primarily to inflated manufacturing costs. The district was working out the logistics of retrieving the trailer.
During student recognitions the following were honored:
First graders Mahaila Jackson and Greyson Murphy, fifth graders Raelyn Douglas and Lucas Osbourn, eighth graders Austin Blalock and Eva Cruz-Caro and juniors Kloey Garcia and Jon Laredo.
Teacher of the month was Kayla Smith, also the elementary school teacher of the year.
Support staff honored was custodian Alayana Hutton.
The audio-visual department at the high school demonstrated graphics skills students have learned.
Teaching staff were offered contracts for the next school year, including one new contract for Camron Frazier, high school social studies.
Resignations were received from Heath Ragle, who is becoming the new athletic director in Canton; primary teacher Lisa Phillips who is retiring; nurse Brandi Davlin; primary teacher Reanna Jackson; high school teacher Pamela Vallance; trainer Justin Rivers; and Patrick Horrigan, coach and alternative education teacher.
