MISD selects firm to build new school

The Mineola school board has selected Jackson Construction of Quitman to provide construction management services for the upcoming school building projects, starting with a new primary campus for grades K-3.

The company will follow up with information for the board concerning pricing for the projects.

The new campus will be located on Loop 564, near FM 1254.

Jackson was among three firms to make presentations to the board last Monday.

The board took a step to improve campus security by authorizing a third police offer to be hired for the MISD police department.

Some amendments to local policy were also approved to improve school safety.

The board filled the vacant trustee position with Todd Morgan. He ran for the board in May and just missed winning a seat by a few votes.

He will fill the unexpired term of Jay McGough, who resigned so his wife could be considered for a job with the district.

In personnel matters, the following were offered contracts:

Ashley Barker (primary school teacher)

Dalton Williams (high school teacher/coach)

Erin York (high school agriculture science teacher)

Cameron Zant (middle school teacher).

High school counselor Melisia Foster has been promoted to the position of assistant principal, following Jeff Tittle’s acceptance of the high school principal post in Quitman.
