MISD teacher of the year named
D.J. Wernecke, left, ag mechanics teacher at Mineola High School, was named the school district’s teacher of the year Monday by the Mineola Kiwanis Club. The teacher award is normally presented during the annual Mineola Chamber of Commerce banquet, an event that has been canceled the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finalists for the award included first grade teacher Paige Clark at the primary school, fifth grade teacher Kim Witt at the elementary school and eighth grade teacher Tina Peterson at the middle school. Wernecke said all teachers share in the award with what they have been through in the past year. Presenting the award were Kiwanis members Roy Shockey and Becky Moore. See related photo Page Two.
