Mt. Vernon shuts out Quitman in district opener
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs were held hitless in their District 13-3A softball opener at home last Tuesday in a 12-0 loss to Mt. Vernon.
Mt. Vernon scored two runs in the first inning and one in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Tigers added four runs in the fourth and five in the top of the fifth while shutting out the Lady Bulldogs.
Kennedi Elmore and Reiny Luman pitched for Quitman. Madyson Pence handled the most chances in the field with four.
The Lady Bulldogs played well in the field, not making any errors. Mt. Vernon pounded out 12 hits in the contest.
District play continues this week at home against Winnsboro Friday at 6 p.m.
