Musical pair reunited for Kiwanis Club program
Nancy Lindley Murphy and Jay Horton presented a musical program at Mineola Kiwanis Tuesday, Nov. 24.
Both were often called on in the late ‘60s and ’70s in their younger years in Mineola. Both made their mark in Mineola and went on to successful careers.
Nancy returned to Mineola to serve as the manager of the Mineola Civic Center, and Jay came home to retire but also serve as an associate pastor of First United Methodist in Mineola. Dr. Horton served churches at various parts of Texas – most recently the First United Methodist Church of Lubbock.
Their program was a mixture of songs they sang together years ago and included country and gospel. Jay also offered his rendition of Elvis Presley and Hank Williams.
They recalled experiences in earlier days in Mineola, highlighted by performing at the Mineola Centennial celebration in 1973 at the former Yellowjacket stadium.
This was the first reunion of the pair since their performing days as youth a half century ago.
