Neighbors brother and sister set MHS pole vault records

Posted

The sister and brother duo of Tierany and Kipton Neighbors soared to new Mineola High School records in the pole vault at last week’s Al Rholes Relays in Van.

Tierany, a sophomore, recorded a vault of 13’ 3.25” to eclipse the school record and was followed by freshman Kipton who cleared 14’7”.

To put those performances into perspective, Tierany’s vault would have won last year’s state championship in Conference 3A by more than nine inches, and Kipton would have won the bronze medal at state.

Vaulting runs in the family, as older sister Jacelyn competes for the University of Nebraska. She won the Conference 6A Texas state championship last year.

Older brother Tyson took a different route, playing baseball for Kansas State and was drafted by the San Diego Padres last year.

They are the children of Brandon and Heather Neighbors.
