New doctor joins Grace Community Healthcare staff

Grace Community Healthcare Ministry, located near downtown Mineola at 312 N. Pacific St., has had a new provider come on board to serve the Mineola community.

According to clinic director Susan Roach, who has worked with the nonprofit for just over a year, the ministry was just realizing its need for another registered doctor to come on board when Dr. Margaret Hayden walked in.

“We needed another provider, because our other two providers are here every Wednesday or Friday, and so if they needed off – it would kind of be a big deal,” said Roach. “(Dr. Hayden) just walked in, and she just was like, ‘Hey! I was just wondering what y’all do, and would you have a need for my services?’… (Yes!),” she added emotionally.

The clinic now receives volunteer help from over 30 people every week. These are made up of non-medical volunteers (including four Spanish-speaking interpreters), several nurses, a nurse practitioner, and now two doctors. All of these individuals are unpaid; they give their time just to help, because they’re qualified, and because they can.

“It really is incredible, the spirit of service that is here – that these people come here every single week. They treat it as a job,” said Roach.

Roach says that God providing for the daily needs of the low-cost clinic is something that the organization sees happen regularly.

Roach says that they are “always taking new patients” and that, in fact, they “really want new patients.”
