Pilot Club to officially dedicate musical play area at Hogg Park

Posted

The Pilot Club of Quitman invites the public to an official ribbon cutting of the playground-grade oversized musical equipment that it has installed in the Gov. Jim Hogg Park in Quitman Saturday, May 15 at 10 a.m.

This new colorful and playful equipment is focused on inclusive play. Attractive and intellectually and physically stimulating, each play instrument can be accessed and enjoyed by a person of any ability and any age. While fun, these playground grade instruments enhance user motor skills and allow a diverse group of people to be able to socially engage with one another while making music and joy.

At the event, club members will introduce the equipment, there will be a ribbon cutting and then musical demonstrations. Following, all are invited to enjoy refreshments of home-baked cookies and to try out the equipment for themselves.

To be able to purchase this gift, the 40-member non-profit club worked hard on two fundraisers and also received two generous monetary grants; Pilot International contributed $5,000, and the Wood County Electric Charitable Foundation contributed $10,000.

Quitman Pilot Club is a non-profit all-volunteer service group that provides education for the prevention of traumatic brain injury and offers services to those suffering from brain related disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, stroke and autism. Bicycle safety, Project LifeSaver, and Special Olympics are just a few of those efforts.

Other projects include support of local students through scholarships, sponsorship of the teen Quitman Anchors’ service club and in many other ways.
