QDC board OKs budget
The Quitman Development Corporation approved a new budget to be presented to the city council for approval at the council’s meeting which has been moved to Sept. 22 at City Hall. The QDC budget proposal is $308,483 for 2023.
QDC Board President Martha Scroggins reported she, Rodney Kieke, Brad Medlin and Dr. Greg Eberhart had recently toured the Stitchin’ Heaven facilities.
“They are working on a 5,000 square foot distribution center,” Scroggins noted. “They certainly have a lot going on at their business.”
In another matter concerning Stitchin’ Heaven, a motion to grant the business an additional façade grant died for the lack of a second. The business had been awarded a grant recently on its mural project but had requested more money to help finish the project.
“This the first time that we have somebody come back,” Kieke said.
Kieke reported the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Store would begin working on their property where Jackson Chevrolet was formerly located at the corner of South Main and Stephens Street next to Jim Hogg City Park.
Kieke reported the owner of the new convenience store on Highway 154 just west of town was waiting on more plans from engineering and architects but is continuing with the project. Kieke also reported the food truck pavilion on the corner of Clark Street and Hwy. 154 has opened and has one vendor operating.
