QISD board OKs new ag department truck
The Quitman ISD school board voted unanimously to approve Superintendent Rhonda Turner to purchase a truck for the agriculture program. In the only action item on the agenda, the board gave Turner the responsibility to purchase a truck not to exceed $70,000.
The board recognized the new Outdoor Education program with teacher Judy Johnson and a pair of students going over the program, their goals and some of the activities they have been experiencing. Johnson reported such things as vehicle maintenance, Dutch oven cooking and possibly archery.
In the superintendent’s report Turner said the enrollment was at 1,179. The facilities committee met recently and discussed air conditioning problems at the elementary school.
“We are going to get someone to come in and look at all the units that are old and see if can get some kind of recommendation to bring to the board,” Turner said. “We are looking at some other items, but we are not ready to bring anything else to the board at this time.”
The board will have its last meeting of the year Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.
