QISD considers long-term electricity savings project
The Quitman ISD board of trustees listened and asked questions during a presentation by representatives from Schneider Electric concerning energy savings and deferred maintenance.
Schneider Electric visited each campus and presented findings of their study. The program overview found the district can reinvest energy and operational costs back into QISD to fund infrastructure and technology improvements. A solution was designed around specific goals, tailored needs and tangible cost savings.
There would be $2.5 million savings over a 20-year partnership, an estimated annual savings of $125,000.
The solutions include maximizing efficiency and planning for future use, modernizing technology and improving effectiveness and visibility, updating aging infrastructure and steward existing assets, documenting and training local staff for long term effectiveness, strategically reinvesting existing utility into upgrades, and telling the story of innovation and fiscal stewardship to the community.
No vote was taken. The presentation was for information and will be further studied for a future meeting.
In other matters the board approved:
• A memorandum of understanding for Tyler Junior College dual credit classes.
• An inter-local agreement with Wood County for the May 7 school board election.
• A budget amendment to purchase more Chromebooks.
• Superintendent Rhonda Turner to the Region VII advisory committee.
• The selection of Rutherford, Taylor & Company as district auditors for the year ending Aug. 31.
Prior to the meeting, the Quitman High School Key Club presented an overview of what the club stands for and the projects they have been committed to this year.
Teacher contracts for 2022-23 were approved. Retiring this year are Kal Monk and June Sims. Coaches Mark Fatheree and Austin Hagy are moving on from education to opportunities outside of teaching and coaching.
