QISD OKs energy plan
Quitman ISD board members approved an energy savings project with Schneider Electric for lighting improvements for all school district facilities for $819,000.
Superintendent Rhonda Turner said it is replacing lights and fixtures where needed on all interior and exterior lighting. “The projected savings is $1.7 million over 20 years. This project is an energy saver so we think it is financially responsible and we feel like it is environmentally responsible as well,” she said.
In other business, the board approved the construction manager at risk method to build the animal barn and information technology renovations.
Turner said the IT facilities are in an old part of the school that was not renovated before.
