Quitman basketball teams split games with Saltillo

The Quitman Bulldogs took on the Saltillo Lions in a varsity doubleheader on Monday, Nov. 25. The Lady Bulldogs secured a commanding victory, while the boys varsity team fell short in a tough matchup.

Lady Bulldogs Dominate Saltillo Lions, 44-35

The Lady Bulldogs came out strong, taking control of the game from the opening tip. With an aggressive offense and a lockdown defense, Quitman maintained the lead throughout the game, never allowing the Lions to gain momentum.

Sharp teamwork and precise execution were key as the Lady Bulldogs outplayed Saltillo in every aspect. Their resilience and focus under pressure carried them to a well-earned 44-35 victory, showcasing their determination and skill as they continue their season.

Boys Varsity Struggles Against Saltillo in 51-28 Loss

The boys varsity Bulldogs started their game with a solid first quarter, putting up 8 points through two two-pointers, a three-pointer and a free throw. However, the Lions set the tone early with a dominant 19-point opening quarter, establishing a lead Quitman couldn’t overcome.

In the second period, the Bulldogs added 8 more points, bringing their total to 16, but Saltillo responded with another 15 points to lead 34-16 at halftime. Despite Quitman’s efforts to close the gap in the third quarter with 8 additional points, Saltillo maintained their lead with 7 more.

In the final quarter, Quitman fought hard, scoring 6 more points, but Saltillo sealed the win with 10 additional points, resulting in a 51-28 victory for the Lions.
