Quitman Development considers mural project
Quitman Development Corporation board members heard a presentation from Todd Witt concerning the Wood County Walls (WCW) project.
Witt explained the vision for WCW is based on the Wynwood Walls in Miami, Fla. The Wynwood area has become a major attraction in Miami.
WCW is a countywide public art-based attraction organized as an art trail that connects the communities of Wood County.
“This will be a collection of ‘selfie’ art and mural walls,” Witt noted. “Selfie art is a place where people will travel to and take pictures of themselves with a mural. The murals and other public art are meant to be engaging, inspiring, encouraging and fun.”
Witt continued, “The goal is for visitors to spend multiple days in Wood County enjoying the public art and sharing on social media.”
Witt claimed WCW will serve a countywide art-based ecotourism and community development platform that will improve the quality of life of local citizens and enhance tourism. Plans are to have an annual muralist festival in every participating community.
No action was taken on a request for funding but will be considered in a future meeting.
In the only other item, a discussion was held on the possibility of placing money in more than one of the local banks. The board decided to have a representative from a local bank to attend the next meeting to discuss what is offered concerning the various account possibilities.
The next meeting will be May 8.
