Quitman girls go 3-3 in Mt. Vernon tournament
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs played six games during the Mt. Vernon Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Bulldogs won three contests and fell in three, moving them to 4-3 on the season.
They defeated Wills Point, Avery and Liberty-Eylau while falling to DeKalb, Gilmer and Paris.
Coach Blake Hamrick felt it was a good learning experience for his team.
“We struggled early to find the offense without Sadie (Vander Schaaf) who missed all weekend with an injury,” he said. “Once we started to figure things out about halfway through the third game we started looking good. I was very pleased with our defense. Our shots finally started to fall which fixes a lot of things, and our leadership and energy were both better. We still have a way to go but this was a good weekend for us and I was very pleased with how we stepped up after the first day and rose to the occasion.”
In their 51-33 win over Wills Point, Kaysie Parker dominated on offense with 16 points while Allie Berry added 13 points. They defeated Liberty Eylau 51-31 as Parker put up 20 and Addie Marcee added 10 points. The Lady Bulldogs blasted Avery 49-19 with a great team defensive game. Against Avery, Madyson Pence and Berry each scored 11 points followed closely by Marcee with 10.
After playing at Alba-Golden Tuesday, Quitman travels to Palmer Friday for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
