Quitman girls win bidistrict
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs dominated the Troup Lady Tigers 37-16 Monday evening at Union Grove to earn a bidistrict basketball championship.
They move on to the area playoff round to face DeKalb Thursday at 6 p.m. in Pittsburg.
DeKalb defeated Harmony on Monday 37-36.
The two squads met during the Quitman tournament in late December with Quitman taking a 45-33 win.
The Lady Bulldogs played a complete game Monday, maintaining their focus and energy from start to finish. The steady hand of Kaylin Sapp, the physical play of Sadie Vander Schaaf and the energy of Autumn Cason and Allie Berry guided the Lady Bulldogs throughout.
Quitman forced 20 turnovers from the Lady Tigers, who appeared overwhelmed at times by the organization, anticipation and quickness of the Lady Bulldogs.
Kaylin Sapp led Quitman scorers with 9 points, with Berry and Annabelle Popek each contributing 8. Addison Sapp added 5 and Cason 4. Sadie Vander Schaaf registered a field goal, and Erin Vander Schaaf closed the scoring by sinking a free throw late in the final moments.
The Lady Bulldogs have generated some significant momentum and confidence as they await their next opponent.
