Quitman ISD administrators awarded one-year contracts
Quitman ISD school members approved one-year contracts for administrators at Monday’s meeting.
Those contracts renewed were for Dana Hamrick, QHS principal; Justin Cowart, QHS assistant principal; Chrystal Ballard, QJH principal; Todd Shackelford, QJH assistant principal; Brittany Ellred, QES principal; Lance Morrow, QES assistant principal; Ashley Day, QES assistant principal; Chris Mason, assistant superintendent; and Scott Turner, information technology director.
Athletic Director Shane Webber got the go-ahead on the renovation and purchase of new equipment for the district’s weight room facility. The board approved a total bid of $203,999 by Rogers Athletic from Farwell, Mich.
“Rogers is one of biggest weight training companies in the country. They have just finished a project at Palestine, they built the new Texas A&M football facility not too long ago and also did Highland Park’s last year, “Webber said. “If you are in this field you can’t go anywhere without hearing about Rogers. They also have liability insurance on their equipment and it is the only group that does this.”
After the board approved the Rogers bid, a budget amendment for the money for the project was approved. The funds are coming from the general fund balance.
In other matters, the board approved the calendar for 2021-22 and granted permission to Superintendent Rhonda Turner to hire and issue contracts to certified staff through Aug. 30.
The Quitman FFA program was honored by the board for their recent successes. QHS agriculture teacher Corey Hammond introduced the group and spoke of the successes.
“Quitman was awarded district sweepstakes for the fourth consecutive year. Of the eight teams that were at area, four of those teams went on to state,” Hammond said. “Quitman also received the area sweepstakes award which is a huge accomplishment.”
