Quitman Library Connections
Money Camp is happening again this year during July at the Quitman Public Library. Libraries around the region are participating from Bullard to Henderson to Athens. Sign up for free summer fun at http://circleof10.wufoo.com/forms/2021-gao-youth-financial-literacy-registration. Money Camp is divided into the following age groups: Money Club for Youth age 5-11 and Money Games for Teens age 12-18. This summer, the camps will be online and home-based with camp material packets available by mail or by pick-up at the Quitman Public Library, 202 East Goode St. At the end of July, there will be a Camp Store with great prizes and an Award Ceremony. QPL Summer Reading, “Tails and Tales,” ended on a happy note on June 30 with great prizes for everyone. Special thanks go to the Friends of the Quitman Public Library, Quitman Sonic, Let’s Roll Skating Arena, Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis, Officer Kelly Smith and K-9 Mata, East Texas Zoo and Gator Park, Michelle Smith and the Mini S Exotic Zoo, Susan Lomanto the Craft Lady, and Angie de la Rosa.
Summer lunch snacks will be available for children daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through July, while they last, sponsored by Quitman Rotary Club.
There are activities for adults throughout the summer, as well: Photographers of all levels are invited to the “In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas” that meets every 4th Monday at the library beginning at 5:30 p.m. Cancer Cysters and Breast Friends support group meets in the library community room on the last Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. Call 903-850-3978 for more information. Free knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and patterns to trade. The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will begin meeting in September on each 3rd Monday at 7 p.m. in the library community room. Library cards are free to those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
