Quitman Library Connections

National Voter Regis-tration Day is Tuesday, Sept. 28, and the Quitman Public Library is participating in the month-long “Register in September – Vote in November” voter regis-tration campaign. Forms are available at the front desk. 

September is also National Library Card Sign-up Month, so stop in and see what your library has to offer. Patron cards are available for residents who can provide proof of Wood County residence and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children 5-17.

There are a few boxes of cookbooks left over from the sale at $10 per box. Stop by the lobby to see what is available. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library.

Photographers of all levels are invited to the “In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas” that meets every 4th Monday at 5:30 p.m. Call before coming.

Cancer Cysters and Breast Friends support group meets in the library community room on the last Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. Call 903-850-3978 for more information

Adult Services

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. taught by Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring supplies and join  for free instruction.

Friends of the Library

The Friends meet Tuesday, Oct. 12 at noon for an hour of fellowship and fun. The membership drive is in full swing, and you are invited to join this active group of volunteers dedicated to growth and improvement of the library. Officers are Tonia Nix, president; Carley Tucker, vice president; Susan Lomanto, secretary; Rebekah Yeager, treasurer; hospitality, Virginia Hoff-pauir; and FOL Newsletter, Susan Lomanto and Delene Allen.

Genealogy

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets Monday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. The society invites newcomers and will help research family history. On Display

Near the checkout area is a display of books highlighting the American Library Association’s “Banned Books Month” to promote freedom to read.

Also, a collection of antique kitchen gadgets and recipe books, on loan from Rebekah Yeager, is on display in the front lobby.
