Quitman Public Library is celebrating January with displays throughout the library: “New Year, New Hobby” and “Fight the Winter Chill with a Cozy Mystery” near the front desk. Also “Cuddle Up with a Good Book” and “Reading in a Winter Wonderland” in the children’s section. 

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites family researchers and historians to meet on the 3rd Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room.  For meeting confirmation, follow the page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

Wood County Metal Detecting Club meets on 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m. 

Friends of the Quitman Public Library meets 2nd Tuesdays at noon. The next one-hour meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 13. Expect a special Valentine’s Day treat. Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of thelibrary. Officers are Jackie Gilbreath Blalock – president, Sue Reynolds – vice-president, Anita Nance – secretary, and Rebekah Yeager – treasurer.

Board Games for Teens group meets every other Friday from 1-4 p.m. in the community room. Bring a couple of board games that your teens enjoy, and you are welcome to bring snacks and drinks to share. The group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas and is designed for teens only (ages 13-19). 

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. in the main lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction. Bring your patterns to swap. 

Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Assistance in reading/writing skills and math is available in the public computer area on Wednesdays during library hours. 

Online services are available by visiting our website at www.quitmanlibrary.org to find the TexShare® database of reference resources and Libby® and Boundless® for the latest eBooks, audiobooks, and streaming video. Library cards are available at no cost for those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children 5-17. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Keep current at www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary.
