Summer Reading 2025 “Adventure Begins with Summer Reading” is scheduled for June at the Quitman Public Library. Young readers, aged pre-K through 10 years, can pick up reading game cards at the front desk. Each Thursday in June, from 2-3 p.m., there will be an activity in the library’s community room.  

Friends of the Quitman Public Library will meet at noon on May 8. This will be the last meeting of the 2025 season. The public is invited to join this active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library. 

Story Time with Spencer happens every 2nd and 4th Friday at 1 p.m. in the children’s section. Spencer will read to the children on Friday, May 9. Story time is designed for toddlers through six years of age, and parents are asked to stay with their children as these story time episodes are recorded.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites family researchers to meet on the 3rd Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the community room. The next meeting is May 19. 

Wood County Metal Detecting Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the community room. Exciting historical research and excavation is planned for the summer months. The public is invited. 

The Board Games for Teens group meets every other Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. in the community room. Bring board games and snacks to share. This group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas and is designed for teens 13-9. Call 903-763-4191 to confirm days. 

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. Students of all ages and skill levels are invited to join the free classes.

What you may not know about the Quitman Public Library: We have a collection of over 1,000 DVDs. Patrons 18+ may check out up to four movies for one week. The DVDs are grouped by type: humor, romance, western, drama, classic, suspense, biography, history, adventure, war, children, young adult, religion, fantasy and science fiction. Stop by and check out some entertainment.

Library cards are available at no cost for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
