Quitman, Mineola girls lead cross country meet
Quitman and Mineola girls placed first and second at Quitman’s cross country meet Saturday, while the Quitman boys were second and Mineola boys fifth among eight teams.
Katie DeGorostiza ran quickly to the front of the pack and posted a winning time of 11:54, some 44 seconds ahead of teammate McKenna Wood.
Wood edged Mineola’s Raylie Peebles by two seconds.
Quitman also got a top ten finish from freshman Jadea Comenux, 8th in 13:05.
Christina Plata was 13th in 13:30 and Cooper Marcee 18th in 13:37 to give the Lady Bulldogs 34 points.
Caroline Castleberry was 12th for Mineola in 13:25, Emilee Vega 17th in 13:37, Brianna Palacios 19th in 13:41 and Yarelia Hernandez 24th in 14:01 as Mineola finished with 58 points to easily secure second.
The Quitman boys were paced by Enrique Olvera in 7th at 16:06. Kirk Sarazinski came in 11th in 17:14, Saul Flores 18th in 17:40, Jairo Salinas 20th in 17:55 and Anthony Rojas 38th in 18:49.
Quitman had 72 points. Tyler HEAT won with 41 points while White Oak was third with 88.
Mineola’s best finish was Preston Haskins in 12th at 17:14 followed by Eddie Lucas in 17th at 17:39, Kalen Silverio in 28th at 18:08, Sebastian Klodnicki in 29th at 18:16 and Ceasr Hernandez in 47th at 19:22.
