Quitman notches first victory

It took five sets, but the Quitman Lady Bulldogs scored their first win of the season at home against Quinlan Boles Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Superb net play by Kallie Hoover and Allie Berry along with the setting of Ashley Davis and back row play of libero Addison Marcie and Abby Day clinched the close win for Quitman.

The opening set got the Lady Bulldogs on track as they won 25-23 coming from behind to pull out the victory. Boles came back and took wins of 19-25 and 16-25. 

The Lady Bulldogs came back in the fourth set to claim another close 25-23 win setting up the fifth set. Quitman showed great resolve in coming back and taking the final set 15-12 in a a tight back and forth contest.

“I thought we came together as a team and worked hard to earn the win,” Coach Allison Head said.

Leading the way for Quitman were Allie Berry, 11 kills; Kallie Hoover, 10 kills; Ashley Davis 30 assists, 19 digs and five aces; and Addie Marcee 17 digs and five aces.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to White Oak for weekend tournament play and did not come away with any wins.

After a game at Tyler Chapel Hill Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs travel to Big Sandy Friday with the varsity playing at 4:30 p.m.
