Quitman Police Report

February 7

Officer Joe Andrade was dispatched to the UT Health Quitman Hospital for a woman who felt she was being treated unfairly by the medical staff. The staff advised Andrade that they were working to get the woman medically cleared so they could have her transported to another facility.

February 16 

Chief of Police John Farmer worked a minor traffic accident in the 500 block of E. Goode St. involving a Ford Excursion and a semi-truck and trailer. According to the driver of the Ford he was trying to get up some speed to move on the slick, icy parking lot of Brookshires. The driver entered the roadway at which point he could not stop and collided with the semi-truck, before sliding up into the landscaping of City National Bank. There were no injuries. The man driving the Ford was issued a citation for no proof of liability insurance. 

February 20

Officer Jim Rapp was dispatched to the UT Health Quitman Hospital emergency room for a disturbance. Rapp spoke to the E.R. staff who advised that a patient was being argumentative and causing a problem. The patient was there for a cut on his hand he sustained after slamming a glass down and it broke in his hand. The patient advised Rapp that he was being treated poorly by the staff and wanted to leave. The patient left the hospital and refused stitches for his injury. Rapp was called to a residence on N. Winnsboro St. an hour later, and the same man went peacefully back to the hospital for treatment without further incident. Rapp advised that he investigated for any related physical family violence and there was none.

February 22

Chief Farmer took an incident report of a missing or stolen debit card. The reporting party advised she was told by her bank she needed to make a report with police. The reporting party advised that between Feb. 11 and 12 someone entered her unlocked vehicle at her residence on Tomie St. and removed the card. The reporting party cancelled the card, and no transactions were completed. 

February 27

Officer Rapp took an incident report after receiving a phone call from the White Oak Police Dept. Rapp was advised that a student from White Oak had attended a Quitman livestock show and believes she lost a brown Michael Khors wallet. Rapp went to the ag barn and a female student turned in a wallet to him. The wallet was taken to the police department and the owner notified.

February 28

Sgt. Delton Graves received a report from the manager of the Family Dollar of a possible shoplifter. The manager gave a clothing description of a white male and the direction of travel. Graves observed a male meeting the description near the Quitman Cemetery. Graves identified the suspect as Clifford Lightfoot, who was found in possession of stolen property from the store. Lightfoot was also in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. Lightfoot was given a criminal trespass warning for the Family Dollar and transported to the Wood County Jail, where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance PG1 less than1gram and possession of marijuana less than two ounces.

Sgt. Graves was dispatched to the UT Health Quitman Hospital emergency room about an assault. Graves spoke to a nurse who advised a patient had thrown a finger monitor at her that hit her in the face. The nurse advised she did not want to pursue charges. The staff advised the person comes into the emergency room all the time and is always rude to the staff. Graves spoke to the patient who denied assaulting the nurse, and he advised he was there to take an incident report. 

March 1

Chief Farmer took a scam incident report from a man. The reporting party advised he was contacted by phone on Feb. 23 by someone who said they were with Publishers Clearinghouse and that he was the winner. The scammer told the reporting party that he needed to send a money order for $300 by mail to an address in New Jersey for a processing fee to receive the grand prize. This case was referred to another agency for further investigation due to the interstate crime.

Officer Clint Perkins was dispatched to the Dogwood Villa Apartments for a suspicious person call. Perkins spoke to the reporting party who advised when she came home she sat in her car talking on her cell phone. The reporting party advised an unknown white male started standing beside her driver’s side window and stated something vulgar to the reporting party. The reporting party called her boyfriend and the white male described as being about six feet tall saw the boyfriend and fled in a dark colored Dodge truck. The truck had loud exhaust, with chrome wheels, and blue tinted headlights. The truck was also pulling a 16-foot utility style trailer with metal side walls. This case is under further investigation.

March 4 

Officer Perkins took a possible theft report by phone from a reporting party who advised that on March 3 while she was parked at the UT Health Hospital someone had stolen gas from her 2020 Chevy Equinox. The reporting party advised after being in the hospital several hours with her husband, she came out to the parking lot and noticed that the gas door was open on her car and noticed a quarter of a tank of gas missing. This case is under further investigation.
