Quitman races to early lead in victory over AG Panthers

Posted

The Quitman Bulldogs raced to a 24-3 first quarter lead on the road at Alba-Golden and never looked back in a 76-48 win over the Panthers last Tuesday.

Quitman’s quick start was led by junior Levi Thompson’s 10 opening-quarter points. The Bulldog offense was also sparked by three-point shots from Thompson, Ford Tannebaum and Hunter Jordan. Point guard Brady Floyd added four points in the quarter including a steal and full-court drive for a score.

For the Panthers, Blake Weissert hit a bucket with 4:33 left in the first quarter to get Alba-Golden on the scoreboard after Quitman had taken a 14-0 lead. Weissert scored 13 points for the game.

In the second quarter Jordan, Ford Tannebaum and Jack Tannebaum each hit triples to take a commanding 43-20 lead at intermission.

The Panthers battled the Bulldogs in the third quarter led by the play of Braydon Randolph who hit a pair of triples and scored 10 of Alba-Golden’s 20 points in the period. Randolph came to play in the second half, scoring 16 of his 17 points in the final two quarters.

Floyd scored nine points in the third frame for Quitman and had 17 for the contest. Thompson led all scorers with 23 points on the night.

The Bulldogs’ relentless pursuit on defense was a key to the game with the full-court pressure forcing the Panthers into several turnovers, leading to Quitman scoring opportunities.

After playing at the White Oak Tournament, Quitman traveled to play at Edgewood Dec. 7 followed by a contest at home Dec. 10 against Union Grove.
