The Quitman Bulldogs took on the Chisum Mustangs in their third district game of the season, securing an impressive victory Friday.

The Bulldogs came out strong, with quarterback Klayton Meadows delivering an early blow five minutes into the first quarter. A perfectly executed pass to Jacob Breding in the end zone put Quitman on the board with a 6-0 lead.

Quitman continued the momentum, quickly regaining possession and pushing down the field for another touchdown. As the first quarter ended, Meadows capped off the drive with a successful two-point conversion, extending the Bulldogs’ lead to 14-0.

Chisum responded in the second quarter, managing to break through Quitman’s defense for a touchdown, followed by a successful kick to make it 14-7.

However, Quitman wasn’t done. Meadows connected once again, this time with Dakota Reynolds, who powered his way to a touchdown, bringing the score to 20-7. Reynolds added a two-point conversion, widening the gap to 22-7.

The Mustangs kept fighting, scoring another touchdown late in the half, though they failed to convert, leaving the score at 22-13. In a last-second drive before halftime, Meadows threw another deep pass to Reynolds, who made it to the 3-yard line just as the buzzer sounded, closing an intense half.

The second half kicked off with Chisum eager to close the gap, but the Quitman defense quickly made their presence felt. An interception by Bryson Hobbs gave the Bulldogs a key turnover and shifted momentum.

Quitman couldn’t capitalize immediately, as Chisum regained possession and started making significant yardage.

On an outside run, a Chisum player sprinted toward the end zone, with Quitman’s Colden Wilson giving chase. The Mustangs managed to score, bringing the game within striking distance at 22-19. With the pressure mounting, Quitman knew they had to respond.

Meadows, showing off his agility and leadership, ran for a quarterback keeper, breaking free for a 30-yard dash to the end zone. The missed two-point conversion left the score at 28-19.

As the fourth quarter began, Chisum ran down the field for another touchdown closing the gap yet again. Quitman lost the ball to Chisum who pushed hard, advancing to Quitman’s 20-yard line. However, on a critical fourth down, Meadows came through again – this time on defense – intercepting a pass at the 10-yard line.

Though Quitman advanced 40 yards down the field, Chisum wasn’t done yet, reclaiming the ball for one last push.

In a final dramatic turn, Meadows intercepted another pass on Chisum’s 20-yard line, securing a second pivotal turnover. With time running out and Quitman in control, the Bulldogs strategically ran down the clock. Taking a knee on the 40-yard line, they sealed the victory, ending the game with a final score of 28-25.

Quitman’s combination of offensive firepower and defensive resilience, particularly Meadows’ clutch interceptions, ensured their second district win.
